132nd Fighter Wing ANG Des Moines MAP, Iowa F-16C/D, C-12J 'IA' 124th Fighter Squadron

The 124th FS is the wing's flying unit and has operated the F-16C since mid-1993, with a supporting C-12J. The unit was formed in February 1941 at Des Moines and called to active service seven months later, until May 1944. Equipped with the P-51D, the 124th Fighter Squadron was federalized in August 1946, with recall to active Air Force duty from April 1951 until December 1952. The unit became the 124th FIS in January 1953 with the F-80C, and the F-84E in September 1956. The F-86L was assigned in April 1958, followed by the F-89J in April 1962. The unit changed to a Tactical Fighter Squadron in August 1969 with the F-84F and converted to the F-100D in April 1971, and then to the A-7D in January 1977.
